I learned that if you want to verify that your mail server is not an open relay just telnet to relay-test.mail-abuse.org from your email server and it will automatically test your server to verify it for you.
DETAILS FOR NON-TECHIES – If you manage an email server it is a VERY BAD thing for your email server to be an “open relay”. That is a fancy way of saying spammers can (and probably are) using your email server to send spam through your email server. If you don’t deal with it then the ANTI-SPAM patrols (our heros) might add your email server to a black-list and the users of your email server won’t be able to send or recieve email.
